Researching Equitable CS Education
The research team is working iteratively to provide equitable access opportunities for computing education from early childhood across cultural, social, and economic contexts. The project will focus first on fields that are understudied, including integrating computing into elementary education and then data science education. Future work of the center will expand to reach rural contexts and to integrate CS into other STEM fields throughout K-12 education. We will use an iterative process of design-based research (Wang & Hannafin, 2005) to provide both theoretical contributions about how to make CS education equitable and accessible for everyone from early childhood, and local contributions including capacity building and learning materials.
